Getting to know Suzanne Elia-Hoyes

My name is Suzanne Elia-Hoyes. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). Over 24 years, I have worked as a professional school counselor, LPC in schools and private practice, and as a BCBA. These roles have allowed me to support diverse individuals, including those “at-risk” and with special needs, primarily through individual and small-group counseling. My approach Being both an LPC and BCBA enables me to help individuals develop skills that improve their lives. I have a strong understanding of mental health and address emotional and mental health disorders through counseling and behavioral principles to support positive change. My focus I currently work with students aged three to 22 in a school setting. I have supported students, families, and individuals experiencing social, emotional, and behavioral challenges. I feel most comfortable working with children and adults needing support navigating life’s stressors. I view treatment as a partnership, focusing on listening carefully and providing feedback in a non-threatening way. By being authentic from the start, we build rapport and identify meaningful goals for treatment and healing. My communication style I strive to promote respect for human dignity and diversity and to work for the good of individuals and society by fostering mental health and well-being, regardless of clients’ backgrounds. I maintain awareness and sensitivity to cultural and diversity considerations in all aspects of my work. My journey to mental healthcare I began as an Elementary School Counselor. During this time, I earned my counseling license, enhancing my ability to help students overcome obstacles and refine my techniques. Working with individuals and groups, I have continually grown in my commitment to supporting mental health and behavioral well-being.
