Getting to know Dr. Suzanne Marmo-Roman

Difficult experiences in life can bring up feelings of anxiety, depression, or lack of direction, and it can be hard to know what to do. I approach psychotherapy from a place of empathy and non-judgment, tailoring my treatment approach to each unique individual I work with. With compassion and honesty, I aim to help you work through issues and identify your inner strengths to become a happier and healthier version of yourself. My specialization as a therapist, researcher, and educator has been in loss and complicated grief, as well as supporting those who are experiencing serious illness. I work with adults and couples. During my over 25 years of clinical practice, I have found the most effective therapies are practical, easy to understand, and focused on self-acceptance and healing. I am a previous hospital-based healthcare worker and a current professor, so I have been told I relate well to people who work in various high-stress types of work. I hold a Bachelor's degree and a Master's in Social Work from the State University of New York, Stony Brook, and a PhD in Social Work from Fordham University.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Patients often do not know what they want from a therapeutic relationship, but come seeking understanding, support and healing from anxiety, depression, trauma and/or loss. Know that therapy with me will integrate the work of my expertise along with an accepting, tolerant, nonjudgmental attitude, compassion, and a sense of humor.
