Suzanne Mclerran, LPC

Psychotherapist
TX
Hi, I'm Suzanne McLerran; I have a Master of Arts degree in Counseling and have been a Licensed Professional Counselor since 1993. I like to work with adults, ages 30 and up, to help them manage depression, anxiety, grief and loss, or self-esteem issues. I use a variety of techniques, like cognitive behavior therapy to identify possible thinking errors, or positive psychology to help a client feel calm, grounded, and in the present moment. I also help people with coping skills, such as setting boundaries or problem-solving. Additionally, at times it is helpful to a client to see how their upbringing may have impacted how they view the world and determine if that perspective still works for them. I have a casual style and I use humor at times to help clients discuss difficult parts of a conversation, but never to make light of an issue. The first session is where I take a brief history, see what brought the client to therapy, and determine what goals the client hopes to achieve. I believe that any movement forward is progress, no matter how small. I let my clients decide how much or how little of that movement they feel safe to make. When it's time for therapy to end, I get tremendous joy from seeing my clients move from a place of despair to one of hope, a place where they understand they are in control of themselves and their choices.
