Getting to know Tamara Dwyer

Hi there, I'm Tamara! My name is Tamara Dwyer (LIMHP, CMSW, LMSW). I use a person-centered and supportive approach and work with individual adults. I focus on the importance of the therapeutic relationship in achieving goals. My approach I mainly use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). ACT helps individuals accept their thoughts and feelings rather than trying to change or avoid them. It encourages clients to commit to behaviors aligned with their values and goals, even with difficult emotions. ACT integrates mindfulness techniques to increase psychological flexibility, enabling individuals to live meaningful lives while being resilient through challenges. My focus I have significant experience supporting vulnerable populations and working with mental health diagnoses such as OCD, ADHD, anxiety, trauma, and depression. I am comfortable treating most diagnoses. My communication style I strive to offer a helpful, supportive, strengths-based, and flexible space for my patients. I am understanding and flexible but do challenge problematic behaviors and thoughts that arise during our time together. My journey to mental healthcare I have always wanted a career that helps people become the best version of themselves. I have struggled with mental health and complex trauma myself and know how overwhelming and unattainable change can feel. I understand how hard and debilitating it can be to face these challenges alone and want to be a support and guide for those in similar spaces. I believe everyone has the capacity for change if they want it and have access to it. My education I earned my Master’s in Social Work from the University of Nebraska Omaha. My goals for you We create a plan together based on what each person wants to improve or change in their lives and revisit it as needed. I offer flexibility to life changes and immediate needs but try to focus on that treatment plan.
