Getting to know Tammy Hamann

My name is Tammy Hamann, and I am a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW). I specialize in working with adolescents and adults who struggle with anxiety, depression, trauma, and adjustment-related challenges. Many of my clients are navigating life transitions, relationship stress, or behavioral concerns at home or school. I help by creating a structured, compassionate space where clients feel safe to explore their experiences. My approach integrates trauma-informed care, cognitive behavioral strategies, and developmental insight. Life is full of transitions: School changes, getting married, relationships with friends and family, going through divorce, changing careers, etc. Transitions can cause stress, depression, and anxiety, to name a few. I appreciate partnering with clients to empower them as they navigate difficult transitions and challenges in life. I am an LGBTQ+ affirming therapist who practices diversity, equality, and inclusion. I work with children, teens, and adults experiencing (but not limited to) anxiety, depression, family dynamics, relationship issues, and PTSD.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I aim to create a space where you can speak openly without fear of judgment. At the same time, I’m not just a passive listener—I’ll ask thoughtful questions, offer insights, and help you identify patterns, challenges, and practical ways to move forward. Starting with someone new can feel like a big step, so it’s important to know that my approach is collaborative, respectful, and tailored to you. You don’t need to come in with everything figured out—part of our work is helping you make sense of what you’re experiencing at your own pace. My goal is to find what works best for you, not to take a one-size-fits-all approach. Progress can take time, and it’s normal to have ups and downs along the way. I encourage honesty about what is or isn’t working so we can adjust together. Most importantly, this is your space and your process. My role is to guide, support, and equip you with tools so you can feel more confident managing your mental health outside of sessions as well.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My approach is collaborative, supportive, and tailored to each individual. In our first session, we’ll spend time getting to know each other. I’ll ask about your current concerns, symptoms, personal history, and goals for treatment. This helps me form a comprehensive understanding of what you’re experiencing and begin developing an accurate diagnosis if needed. In ongoing sessions, we’ll check in on your progress, adjust treatment as needed, and address any new concerns. Depending on your needs, sessions may also include elements of talk therapy—such as exploring patterns in thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, developing coping strategies, and working toward personal goals. My goal is to create a space where you feel heard, respected, and actively involved in your care. You don’t need to have everything figured out before you come in—part of the process is working through things together.
