What should a new client know about working with you?

I prioritize clear, open communication to create a supportive, non-judgmental environment. I practice active listening and will give you opportunities to reflect on your experiences with you as an empathetic partner. If we’re working through something challenging, you can expect me to be calm and patient. My journey began after graduating from college with a Bachelor of Science in Biology/Pre-med. Once I moved back home, I was contacted by a family friend about a position at a developmental center as a Qualified Mental Health Professional. Mental health was never in my plan, but it eventually became a critical part of my life. I returned to school for nursing because I always knew that the medical field was for me, but I still felt like that wasn't all that I was called to do, so I enrolled in nursing AND counseling. I graduated with dual degrees, an Associate of Science in Nursing (went on to later receive a Bachelor of Science in Nursing) and a Master of Arts in General Counseling. Almost a year after I graduated, my daughter was admitted on her twelfth birthday for psychosis. My calling as a mental health professional was finally made clear. She suffered for the next four years, on or around her birthday, with unexplained psychosis and hospitalizations until diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder. She is now 23 years old and continues to struggle just to experience some relief and a sense of normalcy. And her mom, LPC and RN, is her primary caregiver.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I believe that therapy is a partnership. Together, we’ll identify and set goals that matter to you, whether they focus on improving relationships, building self-esteem, or another personal objective. As we work together, your goals may evolve as you gain new insights. We can adapt our plan at any time to ensure it’s always meaningful and relevant to you. I’m here to provide you with the support and tools you need to continue to move closer to where you want to be, even when things feel challenging. Our first session will be an opportunity for us to get to know one another. We’ll discuss your background and what brings you to therapy. Therapy is a process, and we’ll continue to build our work together over time. It’s completely normal to feel nervous about your first appointment. We’ll take it one step at a time, and I’m here to guide you through each step of the process.
