Tanya Gutierrez, AMFT

Psychotherapist
CA
Hello, I'm Tanya! I’m a therapist who helps individuals and couples heal from the patterns that keep them stuck, so they can feel more connected, empowered, and whole. I specialize in working with couples who want to communicate more effectively, rebuild trust after conflict, and create relationships rooted in safety and understanding. I also support individuals who feel anxious, disconnected, or weighed down by old relationship wounds, those who find themselves people-pleasing, over-functioning, or struggling to set boundaries without guilt. Together, we’ll untangle the patterns keeping you in survival mode and help you feel grounded and confident in your relationships again. My approach is warm, collaborative, and trauma-informed. I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to shift unhelpful thoughts, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to strengthen emotional regulation, and the Gottman Method to help couples repair conflict and rebuild trust through proven, practical tools. The provider is an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist and is currently working under the supervision of a licensed practitioner. Their current employer is Anxiety Relief Therapy Services.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Therapy with me is a space where you can show up exactly as you are, without judgment or pressure. I know how hard it can be to ask for help, especially when you’re used to taking care of everyone else or trying to keep the peace. My role is to help you slow down, make sense of what’s happening beneath the surface, and find clarity in what you truly need. For couples, I hold space for both partners to feel heard and understood, even when communication feels impossible. My goal is not to assign blame, but to help you both see the patterns you’ve fallen into and learn new ways of connecting that feel safe, respectful, and supportive. You don’t need to have it all figured out, just the willingness to start. Healing begins with small steps, and I’ll be there to guide you through each one.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our work together begins with getting to know your story, what brings you to therapy, what you’ve tried so far, and what feels most important to you right now. From there, we’ll identify your goals and create a plan that feels realistic, supportive, and tailored to your needs. For couples, I often begin with joint sessions to understand your dynamic, followed by individual sessions (when helpful) to explore each person’s perspective more deeply. We’ll focus on improving communication, rebuilding trust, and learning tools to manage conflict more effectively. For individuals, sessions often include exploring attachment patterns, identifying triggers, and developing coping tools that help you respond rather than react. Over time, therapy becomes a space to heal, grow, and build relationships, both with others and with yourself, that feel authentic and fulfilling.
