Psychotherapist
NY
I'm Taryn Codner-Alexander (She/Her), a licensed mental health counselor, first-generation West Indian, and founder of Tea for the Soul Mental Health Counseling, PLLC. I hold a Master of Education in Mental Health Counseling and a Master's in Psychological Counseling from Teachers College, Columbia University. I specialize in working with women of color to improve their self-esteem, reduce anxiety, navigate family conflict, and process attachment trauma. When you reflect on your relationships with your parents or caregivers, does it bring up hurt, feelings of being undervalued, or misunderstood? Do you find yourself wading through the impact of those relationships, struggling to see your worth, seeking others' validation, or having difficulty holding those who don't treat you well accountable? Perhaps you are fed up with this pattern but unsure how to break it. I have several years of experience working with women of color to process the impact of the past on their present in the criminal justice system, child welfare, and private practice.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I work from an integrative and culturally informed approach to help you process the past while giving you tools for managing your self-esteem in the present. Additionally, I am trained in another technique called Brainspotting that enables you to get to the core of your feelings. We can work together to build your confidence, see your worth, and uphold the standard of treating you according to your worth.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The first 2-3 sessions will be discussing what brought you to therapy, factors contributing to how you feel, and your history. Finally, we will set goals and begin to work on them.
