Taylar Gutierrez, LPC

Psychotherapist
CO
I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Colorado with a doctorate in Clinical Psychology and a master’s in International Disaster Psychology from the University of Denver. My work is grounded in trauma-informed care, a strong multicultural lens, and a deep commitment to helping people reconnect with themselves, process pain, and live more meaningfully. I specialize in supporting clients navigating trauma, attachment wounds, relationship difficulties, and emotional overwhelm. My goal is to help you understand the “why” beneath what you're experiencing, while also equipping you with tools to feel more grounded in your day-to-day life. Whether you’re carrying old pain, feeling stuck in unhelpful patterns, or simply trying to reconnect with your emotions, therapy can help... and you don’t have to do it alone. In my work, I value warmth, insight, and realness. I bring curiosity and compassion to our sessions while also gently challenging the patterns and beliefs that may be holding you back. I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. Every person’s story is unique, and I tailor therapy to honor your specific identity, needs, and goals. Therapy is hard work, but it can also be deeply healing. Together, we’ll explore what’s been getting in the way and what’s possible on the other side of it.

I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. Every person’s story is unique, and I tailor therapy to honor your specific identity, needs, and goals. What should a new client know about working with you?

Starting therapy is a brave and meaningful step, and I don’t take that lightly. My clients describe me as warm, thoughtful, and gently challenging. I show up authentically in our sessions, and I welcome you to do the same. I aim to create a space that feels safe enough to be vulnerable, while also being grounded enough to support meaningful growth. My style is relational, trauma-informed, and collaborative. I primarily work from a cyclical psychodynamic framework, which means I help clients explore how early life experiences and attachment dynamics shape their current emotional world, beliefs, and behaviors. I also incorporate Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which provides practical tools to help you connect with your values, make room for your emotions, and take meaningful steps forward. While I take the work seriously, I also believe therapy can include laughter, creativity, and moments of lightness. We’ll look at the full spectrum of your experience... not just what hurts, but also what’s hopeful. You don’t have to come in with perfect words or a clear plan. You just have to be willing to start. I believe in creating a space where you can show up as your full self—messy, complex, uncertain—and still be met with understanding and care. Therapy with me is a space where healing is possible, and your story is honored.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our work together begins with getting to know you... not just the challenges that brought you to therapy, but your history, strengths, values, and goals. In the early sessions, we’ll explore what’s happening in your life now and how it connects to your broader story. We’ll also begin building skills to help you manage distressing or overwhelming symptoms, so you can feel more emotionally grounded and safe in your body and mind. Once we’ve built enough stability and safety, we’ll begin to dive more deeply into processing the experiences, relationships, or wounds that continue to impact you. That could mean working through trauma, unpacking attachment dynamics, exploring identity, or identifying how past patterns show up in the present. We move at your pace, always centering what feels manageable and meaningful to you. A typical session might include reflection, skill-building, emotion-focused work, or relational exploration. You may notice greater clarity, deeper self-awareness, and an increasing ability to stay present with your emotions over time. My approach is flexible and collaborative. We check in regularly about what’s working, what’s not, and where you’d like to go next. You’re always in the driver’s seat! My goal is to help you feel more connected to yourself, better equipped to navigate life’s complexities, and empowered to make changes that feel authentic and lasting.
