Taylor Roys, LSW

Psychotherapist
30 N Michigan Ave, Ste 925, Chicago, IL
Many of my in-person appointments are available for video visit as well. Please inquire for details. I am a psychotherapist who believes that therapy is largely exploratory, not a linear process with strict goals. So, I’m passionate about creating a space for this exploration so you can deepen your connection to self, build confidence in who you are, and increase fulfillment in your relationships. My diverse personal and professional background helps me to recognize and honor your unique experiences and needs for treatment. Although I have experience helping patients with a wide variety of concerns, I am particularly passionate about working with adults on relationship concerns, those who resonate with ADHD or neurodivergent experiences (with and without diagnosis), as well as LGBTQIA+ populations. I emphasize a systems perspective, which can help us identify connections and patterns in your life that may be impacting you. Additionally, I typically focus on psychodynamic, relational, and person-centered approaches in my therapeutic treatment. This means that we may explore early life experiences and discover how they inform your relationship to yourself and those around you. While I utilize my clinical skills to determine the best treatment approach, I strongly believe in collaboration, and I’ll consistently seek your input every step of the way.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Research shows that the patient-therapist relationship is one of the most important aspects of effective treatment. So, I take the time to get to know you holistically, while creating a welcoming and comfortable space for you to engage in this meaningful work. I value your expertise on your life and want you feel empowered to be both a partner and leader in your treatment. You can expect me to have a calm yet enthusiastic demeanor and to accept you as a whole person.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

For some, beginning therapy is exciting; for others it is daunting. Some people have been to therapy before; others are trying it for the first time. So, it is important to me to honor your experience and adjust treatment accordingly. Our first few sessions are primarily focused on a broader overview of who you are and what leads you to seek therapy; and you’ll have the opportunity to ask any questions you have about working together. I typically approach each session by reminding you of what we discussed last time and asking if you’d like to continue with that or if you have something else on your mind for your session. Throughout our work together, I encourage open communication to make sure that you do not feel over or underwhelmed by the therapeutic process so we can adjust accordingly. My goal as your therapist is to be an unwavering support while you navigate life’s complexities.
