Psychotherapist
50 W Montgomery Ave, Rockville, MD
I am a licensed clinical social worker serving MD, VA, and DC. Over the years, I have had the privilege of working with clients of all ages in both public school and private practice settings. It is the greatest honor to be able to hold space for folks as they are processing complex emotions and exploring healing. In the therapy space, I bring in my years of experience, education, and knowledge of various therapeutic strategies and theories. I'm trained in EMDR therapy and can offer it in tandem with talk therapy, or as the primary treatment approach. My practice is LGBTQ+ affirming and welcoming. I am trauma-informed and I have experience supporting folks with depression, anxiety, OCD, and ADHD. I have also been privileged to work extensively with members of the LGBTQ+ community, which I am very passionate about. I am currently taking new clients ages 10 and older and offering in-person and virtual sessions. My approach is client-centered and relationship oriented. I believe the relationship built in the therapeutic space is one of the most important aspects of the work we will do together. I strive to create a safe, non-judgmental space, where you can be your fullest self. I will meet you where you are and support and empower your exploration of your goals.

Getting to know Tegan Peterson

I am a licensed clinical social worker serving MD, VA, and DC. Over the years, I have had the privilege of working with clients of all ages in both public school and private practice settings. I'm trained in EMDR therapy and can offer it in tandem with talk therapy, or as the primary treatment approach. My practice is LGBTQ+ affirming and welcoming.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I believe therapy is for everyone and we are all capable of growing and healing. My philosophy is the relationship and rapport we build throughout the therapeutic process is the most important part of the work we will do together, and your voice should always lead the way. My approach is client-centered, meaning I believe you are the expert on your experiences. Based on your individual needs, I may pull from attachment-based, trauma-focused, strengths-based, and emotion-focused therapy modalities. In talk therapy sessions, I frequently utilize psychodynamic theory and encourage clients to explore what is happening below the surface. I am also trained in EMDR and can offer this therapy in tandem with talk therapy or as a stand alone treatment.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

A typical session with me will likely begin with a check-in to learn how you have been since we last met, an opportunity to share what you want to focus on for this session, and time to process and talk through your focus. You can always expect empathy, non-judgment, warmth, and compassion in every session. Some days might feel heavy as you come into the therapeutic space, and others might be more celebratory and light. Wherever you are at on any given day, I will meet you there and we will work together to meet the goals you have identified and set.
