Teresa Harris, LMHC

Teresa Harris, LMHC

Psychotherapist
DC
My work begins with a very person-centered approach, recognizing my role as one to listen and empower clients as they create the life they want to live. I often incorporate techniques from solution-focused, narrative, cognitive behavioral, and dialectical behavioral approaches. After 10 years in the fitness and wellness industry, I’ve worked with those struggling with unhealthy relationships with food and their bodies. Working with these clients often involves elements of mindfulness and self-compassion, guiding them toward a life of more self-love. I specialize in working with individuals searching for a greater understanding of themselves, particularly in the areas of gender and sexuality. This is often a journey of identity development and acceptance. Additionally, after enduring a cancer journey of my own, I find joy in helping cancer patients through theirs. I hold a Master’s degree in Counseling from Wake Forest University, which has equipped me with the skills and knowledge to support clients through diverse challenges with empathy and expertise.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My hope is to end each session with some level of an action item...something that allows them to continue the therapeutic experience well outside of the session itself. These generally reside in the areas of self care, practicing new skills or habits, or reflecting on something we've discussed.

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.
