Hi there, I'm Teri! I believe in building a respectful, collaborative therapy relationship with each person to assist them in achieving their highest and best selves. It is important to encourage clients to honor themselves and their life stories in order to live in the present and reach for the future. My experience of over 40 years as a therapist includes working in a variety of outpatient, intensive outpatient, and inpatient settings. This spans work with behavioral health, substance use, dual diagnosis, trauma and PTSD, chronic illness and pain, perinatal/postpartum mental health needs, anxiety and self-esteem, personality disorders, and coping with life transitions. I believe that personal growth is achieved by developing the strengths that we each have and learning new skills on life's journey. My approach When the pain of continuing in the same life patterns is greater than the uncertainty of the future, a person will choose to explore a change for themselves. I endorse a collaborative approach to treatment, in which the client's needs are always the focal point of therapy. Often, I begin with cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to help individuals identify and challenge non-serving thoughts, behaviors, and core beliefs. Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) is utilized to help clients break self-defeating behaviors and gain a sense of mastery over confusing and conflicting emotions. Motivational interviewing helps clients identify their degree of change readiness and what can assist a person to engage in making change happen. Based on the client's needs and goals for therapy, I also utilize psychodynamic, trauma, and grief work to address relationship and trauma wounds. I encourage clients to work toward developing their highest self by living life with intent, purpose, and meaning. My focus I work with adults who want to manage depression and anxiety, substance use, address grief work, and those seeking to improve their relationships with self and others.
