Psychotherapist
CA
My name is Teri Consunji, and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a Master's degree in Counseling Psychology from California State University. I began my clinical practice in 1996 when I designed and taught a substance abuse program for teens. Since then, I have provided services for children and adults, with much of my work focused on foster children and adults involved in the legal system. I relate well to clients facing substance use and challenging relational issues. I am honest and open in my communication and value a cooperative approach to helping you move toward your desired goals. My approach I enjoy assisting you in discovering your strengths and abilities and helping you cope with life's challenges. As a teacher at heart, I want to see you succeed. Initially, it's important for me to understand what you want to accomplish. Then, we will assess the coping skills you already have, strengthen them, and introduce new ones. We will also explore any historical factors from your life that might influence your current difficulties. I believe many of our struggles and successes are generational, and together we can break negative cycles while reinforcing enduring strengths. We primarily use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Family Systems Theory to achieve this. We will continue refining your new skills and habits until you reach your goals. My focus You are the master of your universe, and only you can describe your journey and worldview. I hope we will build trust as we learn about your experience together. It will be important for you to try new things and take risks. There will likely be homework, and completing it is essential to achieving the results you desire. My communication style I use reflective listening to fully understand what you want to accomplish in therapy. As we progress, we collaborate to determine the best interventions for you. I maintain a friendly, nonjudgmental demeanor and provide honest, open feedback.
