Getting to know Thea Flowers

Life can feel overwhelming when stress, anxiety, depression, or relationship challenges begin to interfere with your daily functioning. I work with adults, adolescents, and couples who are seeking practical support, emotional insight, and meaningful change—especially when things feel stuck or hard to manage alone. I hold a Master’s degree in Social Work and provide evidence-based therapy grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Motivational Interviewing. My approach is collaborative, structured, and compassionate, helping clients understand patterns, develop effective coping strategies, and move toward lasting improvement. I have experience supporting clients navigating anxiety, depression, stress, self-esteem concerns, relationship issues, and life transitions. Therapy with me is focused on helping you regain a sense of control, strengthen emotional resilience, and build tools you can use beyond the therapy space. JK Counseling is a fully virtual and based in New York. I work with clients who value a thoughtful, supportive, and goal-oriented therapeutic process. If you’re ready to take the next step, I welcome the opportunity to support you.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Clients often appreciate that my approach to therapy is both supportive and structured. Sessions are collaborative and focused on understanding patterns, building practical coping skills, and working toward goals that feel meaningful and achievable. I work best with individuals, adolescents, and couples who are looking for a thoughtful, steady pace in therapy and want support navigating stress, emotional overwhelm, relationship concerns, or life transitions. Early sessions typically focus on clarifying goals, understanding what’s contributing to current challenges, and identifying strategies that can help create relief and momentum. I aim to create a space that feels respectful, nonjudgmental, and grounded, where clients can explore concerns openly while also gaining tools they can use outside of sessions.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The therapy process typically begins with an initial session focused on understanding your concerns, goals, and what led you to seek support at this time. We’ll discuss relevant background information and identify what you would like to change or improve through therapy. From there, sessions are structured around your goals and may include building coping skills, exploring emotional patterns, and addressing challenges as they arise in real life. The pace of therapy is collaborative and adjusted based on your needs, comfort level, and progress. Throughout our work together, I aim to provide a consistent, supportive space while also helping you develop practical tools and insights that can be applied outside of sessions. Progress is reviewed periodically to ensure therapy remains helpful and aligned with your goals.
