Psychotherapist
CA
Hi there, I'm Theldon! Welcome, I'm Theldon Fryberger, a 52-year-old LCSW with over 20 years of experience working with a wide variety of patient situations and needs. I earned my Master’s in Social Work from Loma Linda University. I focus on providing individual treatment for adults experiencing challenges with anxiety of all types, mood/depression, and relationship difficulties. My approach My approach to therapy utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Solution-Focused, and Mindfulness-Based treatments. I encourage a whole health approach to treatment that incorporates sleep hygiene, healthy eating, exercise, mindfulness, and self-care. My focus I am open to working with a wide variety of situations and people. I strongly consider the role of culture and am appreciative of diversity. I primarily work with adults but have experience with teens. My communication style Our sessions begin with an assessment of your situation and a shared, collaborative exploration of where you are currently and what you would like your life to look like. I bring a non-judgmental, present-centered focus that can be humorous but also serious. Suggestions and ideas will be shared; however, the agenda setting for each session is collaborative. My journey to therapy I appreciate stories and was originally (in the 1990s) going to be a literature professor. That path felt limited and not stimulating enough, so I explored work that involved listening to stories, identifying patterns and themes, which led me to assisting others. Helping people identify their themes, habits of mind, and behaviors—and supporting them in making meaningful changes—is why I continue this work. My goals for you Clients set goals in collaboration with me. If there are factors related to safety or glaring issues that are not addressed or avoided, I would bring those up for discussion.

What should a new client know about working with you?

From early on, I was drawn to understanding the complexities of human emotions, ethical dilemmas, and systemic challenges. My path toward becoming a therapist was shaped by a deep curiosity about people—their resilience, struggles, and ability to find meaning in their experiences. As a social worker, I’ve had the privilege of engaging with individuals navigating life’s uncertainties, whether through personal growth, financial decision-making, or emotional well-being. My experiences reinforced my belief in the power of thoughtful dialogue and practical reasoning, helping people uncover their own strengths and confidence. Therapy, to me, is not just about addressing immediate concerns but about fostering lasting emotional intelligence and resilience. I strive to create a space where clients feel heard, supported, and empowered to make well-informed choices. My work is driven by the belief that with the right guidance and reflection, people can navigate even the most challenging circumstances with clarity and purpose. I collaborate with clients to establish meaningful and achievable goals that align with their personal values and circumstances. My approach is both reflective and practical, ensuring that each goal is tailored to the individual's strengths and challenges. Whether navigating life transitions, financial decisions, or emotional well-being, I guide clients toward defining clear objectives and developing actionable steps. Through ongoing dialogue, we refine goals to remain adaptive and realistic, fostering growth without unnecessary pressure.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

During our first session, clients can expect a warm, collaborative space where we begin to explore their concerns, goals, and the factors influencing their well-being. We'll take time to discuss what brings them to therapy, any past experiences with counseling, and what they hope to achieve. My approach is both reflective and practical, ensuring that the session is structured yet flexible enough to adapt to their individual needs. This initial conversation is an opportunity for clients to share their story at their own pace while I listen, ask clarifying questions, and provide guidance on possible directions for our work together. We'll also review confidentiality, logistics, and any questions they have about the process. Above all, I want clients to leave feeling understood, empowered, and reassured that they have a thoughtful partner in their journey forward.
