Thelma Rivera, LCSW, is a Licensed Clinical Social worker with a master’s degree in social work from Our Lady of the Lake University, San Antonio, Texas. Her experience includes providing individual, family and group services in outpatient treatment centers, private practice, and consultation to enhance services provided to Veterans. Thelma has over 16 years’ experience working with Active service members, Veterans, and their families. She began her career working within a domestic violence legal center in Bexar County, leading personal empowerment and advocacy while providing individual counseling. She then went on to work in a hospital setting, serving Veterans by providing individual and family therapy, psychoeducation, and advocacy. In addition, she provided individual, family and group counseling for Active service members, Veterans and their families in outpatient and private practice settings. Thelma’s a clinical supervisor, providing clinical supervision for licensed and unlicensed providers, improving their skill set to help enhance therapeutic alliance between the client/therapist and service delivery. Her areas of expertise include Military Sexual Trauma, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Anxiety, Depression, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Bipolar, as well as other challenges or stressors that Veterans face. Her passion is working with and advocating for Veterans, she believes in a person-centered approach with a focus on the individual’s needs. She uses serval therapeutic modalities such as Solution-focused Brief therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP).
