Getting to know Theodore Marler

Teddy is a New York State Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) who also holds a NYS certificate in School Social Work. He received his Master's in Social Work from the University at Albany, and previously received a Bachelor's degree in Religious Studies at Lewis & Clark College. Teddy believes that seeking therapy is a powerful avenue to pursue healing for yourself or your child. He prides himself on creating a safe, non judgmental space to explore how your environment, relationships, and mind all impact life experiences.Teddy can help you explore stories about yourself, your past, and work to integrate your values, body, and mind to find meaning and grounding in your life. His therapeutic process will bring out joy and fun along with serious reflection and work. Teddy's career has allowed him to work with children and families involved in the foster care system, permanency work with families in the community and in residential treatment centers, special education, and day treatment settings. He currently works as a School Social Worker in the Albany City School District. He loves this work in public schools as they allow all families access to mental health support. Life challenges that he frequently addresses include family trauma and separation, attachment challenges, traumas in children and adults, anxiety, depression, and chronic stress. As a transgender man, Teddy is also proud to work with LGBTQ individuals and families navigating life changes and identity work. Throughout his career, Teddy has utilized several therapeutic modalities, including Child Centered Play Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Mindfulness techniques. He also utilizes 'parts' theory from Internal Family Systems to help process and explore the impact of trauma. He firmly believes in the importance of integrating body and mind in order to heal and feel a sense of peace and belonging in yourself.
