“This was my first time ever having therapy and I was so anxious but, Thilini was the best choice I ever made. Every session she made it a safe space and ensured the floor was mine. No matter what I brought to the table, she was able to guide me and answer any questions I had regarding my mental health. 10/10 would recommend her to anybody seeking help!!! ”

Getting to know Thilini Weerakkody

Thilini is an LLMHC who firmly believes that we, as humans, have an internal compass honed by years of evolutionary growth to ensure our ability to connect, love, and thrive in the community. However, individuals who experience trauma or are trapped in states of survival due to poverty, racism, violence, or other kinds of instability often cannot access this inherent wisdom. Thilini is passionate about using somatic experiencing, psychobiology, neuroscience, and evolutionary biology to help her clients feel safe enough in their bodies to integrate the lessons they learn in session and reconnect with the intuition and strengths that have always existed inside them. She specializes in working with heightened, complex trauma and dissociation, including presentations like Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID), Otherwise Specified Dissociative Disorder (OSDD), Complex Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD/C-PTSD), Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), and survivors of Intimate Partner Violence (IPV). Thilini uses an eclectic, self-coined “excavation” model of therapy that mimics psychodynamic approaches—encouraging clients to lead the session, allowing problems to arise naturally throughout the conversation, and offering tools in response to the needs highlighted. This approach ensures space for both processing and tangible techniques to address the client’s concerns. These skills are rooted in modalities such as Somatic Experiencing (SE), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Attachment Theory, and Trauma-Focused Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). These bodies of research are integrated with Thilini’s background as a community-based activist for almost a decade and as a doula specializing in advocating for Black and Brown mothers in birthing spaces. She earned her Master’s in Mental Health Counseling from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

She’s very kind and knowledgeable
A very kind and knowledgeable person
I appreciate that she took our first couple sessions to help me fill out the initial intake forms, because it felt too emotionally overwhelming for me to do on my own.
Thilini has quite literally been such a transformative part of my healing journey. I’ve taken my journey very seriously and she has provided me with a toolkit and the psycho education to tackle both my traumatic history and my present day issues. She has been an integral part of learning more about my identity and how my childhood traumas affects my everyday life. I would recommend for anyone looking for a therapist that is both structured, and adaptable and someone who is relatable, extremely caring and holds all the right tools for healing.
Thilini is absolutely amazing. We are blessed to have her as my daughter’s therapist. She is kind, knowledgeable, patient, and a God send. I never believed I would find a good therapist for my daughter, until thilini. She is and has truly been a saving grace. I would recommend Rothchild Counceling to anyone I know!
Working with Thilini has been a massive benefit to my mental health journey! I’ve been in therapy for over a decade with various providers and Thilini has been one of the best therapists I’ve had. I’ve gained new skills and knowledge to help me navigate this increasingly stressful world. I feel supported, heard and safe in our sessions. Very thankful to have found her!
She was knowledgeable and up to date on trauma research, especially how childhood experiences shape us. She helped me replace shame with self-compassion, which was very valuable. However, the work only went so far. I was struggling with OCD, and she didn’t really support ERP, the primary evidence-based treatment. I ended up doing ERP on my own, and it worked. I was referred to her as an OCD specialist, which seems like a management issue rather than hers. We did meaningful insight work, but less progress on resolving core trauma, especially related to JPMorgan. The note taking didn’t clearly reflect what felt like the central part of my trauma, which left me confused. I enjoyed our time and learned a lot, but ultimately had to complete key treatment steps myself.
She was very patience and compassionate during my first intake therapy. It was an eye opening and glad to take first steps to heal or journey. She was great. I booked her for upcoming appointments. Highly recommended—
