Getting to know Dr. Thomas O'Malley

Dr. Thomas O'Malley has decades of experience helping people overcome and manage issues with trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, stress, and other complex and persistent mental health and emotional challenges. When partnering with clients to develop the most effective treatment approach, I place particular emphasis on trust, honesty, and individual responsibility. It is my goal to ensure the right care for each client and provide a supportive environment where you can explore, learn, and grow. I am trained in several different methods of therapy including EMDR, CBT, Mindfulness-based therapy, and Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT). I earned my PsyD from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology, a Master's in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University, a Master's in Social Psychology from Springfield College, and a Bachelor's degree from Oxford Brookes University.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I am a trauma informed therapist, which means that I take into account any past/present trauma that you may have/are experiencing. When we meet I shall conduct an initial assessment and together we will focus on what you want to address in therapy. Coming from a European background gives a different perspective view on mental health, medication and treatment. I am trained in EMDR and all other modalities of therapy to doctorate level (advanced training and education) which means that i value and have put over a decade of education into my education/training and clinical skills. I look forward to meeting and working with you.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

First meeting we will discuss your presenting problems/issues. I will give you clinical feedback what my professional opinion is. We shall complete the assessment process and together we shall agree on a treatment plan for your treatment and work towards addressing issues. Our sessions can be in person, virtual or mixed, the choice is yours.

More information on payments and coverage

While I do not accept all insurance, I can provide you with a superbill, a document which you can submit to your PPO insurance if you have coverage for out of network providers, which your insurance may accept. Please know that this would be entirely between you and your insurance company: you would pay me our agreed upon fee directly at each session, and, separately, your insurance company—if they accept superbills—would reimburse you directly for the covered portion of what you have already paid me. Insurance is a complex subject, and you should contact your insurance company to see if they work with superbills, how much they reimburse and for how long.

Dr. O'Malley was a great in my recovering from a series of panic attack that led to anxiety related sleep problems. He introduced me to EMDR, which really worked to eliminate a disruptive pattern that had developed due to trauma. I am grateful for the work we did together in helping me heal and move forward.
Dr. O Malley is the best. He might not tell you what you want to hear but tells you what you need to hear. Super funny and super smart. Highly recommended!
Working with Dr. O'Malley has been highly effective in healing my PTSD. I was forced to move out of my former apartment due to ongoing assaults of pot smoke and screaming electronic music. However, even in a new, quiet, smoke free home, my physical and emotional PTSD responses continued to be triggered by pot smoke and blaring music. I was paralyzed at times, despite excellent talk therapy. My therapist suggested EMDR, though I was skeptical if anything would work. In less than 6 months working with Dr O'Malley, my PTSD with pot has been resolved. I am able to smell it & move on. Currently, I am close to resolving my PTSD with noise. From our very first session, Dr. O'Malley's empathy, understanding, engagement, support and recognition of my problem brought tears to my eyes. I felt very seen and heard. Not your usual talk therapy, Dr. O'Malley has engaged actively in resolving my PTSD and helping me get back to a normal life. I am amazed & deeply grateful.
Dr.Thomas O' Malley is empathetic, direct, and was able to get to the root of some of the challenges I've been facing very quickly. I highly recommend him! Be ready to do the work.
Dr. T was able to get me in same day when I needed someone to talk with. He had a great balance of leading me to answers while also not being afraid to give his own advice on a situation. Highly recommend seeing him for any type of care.
Dr. O'Malley saved my life. Within a short period of seeing me, he was able to get to the bottom of what I was suffering from. I felt safe while under his care and able for the first time in my life to freely express myself. I found Dr. O'Malley to be honest and open minded, he provided clear direction, and helped me set my goals and ways to overcome many of my symptoms. I am not sure I would be where I am today if it wasn't for Dr. O'Malley. I am beyond grateful for his care and for the time he took to work with me and accommodate me in every way he could. I would strongly recommend him to anyone who is seeking an effective professional, open minded and honest therapist who is results driven and trustworthy.
Dr. Tommy has a great sense of humor and made me feel at ease from the moment my partner and I began our therapy session. He is direct, which I appreciate, and does not do the thing some therapists do where they sit back and jot things down in a notebook whilst repeatedly asking us how something “makes you feel”. He has an actual conversation with you and gives you tangible tools for navigating a healthy relationship with yourself and with your partner.
Convenient hours, easy place to find, parking availability. Office was very nice and cozy. Dr. O’Mally made me feel welcome and I felt understood. He help me find the answers I was desperately needed to overcome my situation. I highly recommend Dr. O’Mally.
Dr.Thomas O' Malley is very easy to talk to and very relatable. He knows how to properly keep you engaged and seem as if the 1 hour session has flew by by touching on all the subject that you'd like to talk about. I am grateful to Dr O' Malley for all that he's done and will continue to do within my therapy goal

Having worked with several therapists over the years, Dr. O’Malley is the first one who I feel has been a good fit for me. He’s personable and approachable, but also clearly very well educated and skilled in the field. Unlike most of my other therapy experiences, I don’t feel like I get “stuck” or prompted into dwelling completely in my past or childhood, etc. during a session. Things come up more naturally and organically which for me creates an environment where I can feel comfortable being vulnerable. Another big plus is that Dr. O’Malley has created an especially inviting space to spend time in.
Dr. Thomas O'Mally has through my visits helped me get over my trauma I have had a difficult time discussing with other's. He listens, has compassion and he is very real when sharing feedback. You can tell he is interested in my wellness and recovery from pain in my past and anxiety I have been experiencing alone due to covid and the isolation. I have a plan and goal and determination to increase my success. He also introduced me to EMDR which fits what I need to feel better. He has a beautiful office which is warm and safe and you can Dr. O, Malley loves helping others. Thank you Dr. Thomas O'Malley
Working with Tommy has been a game changer. His professionalism and compassion have allowed me to grow and heal in ways I did not think possible. I would especially recommend Tommy to members of the LGBTQIA+ community.
I found Dr. O'Malley to have a wide range of skills and knowledge to help with my mental health struggles and handling different life challenges. His EMDR therapy was particularly helpful and got me on the road to healing some deep lying trauma that I had been struggling with for years. I also really appreciate his empathy, humor, and flexibility with me and my hard to predict work schedule.
Dr. O’Malley has helped me get through a new transition in my life that I thought was nearly impossible when I first started seeing him. He listened to my concerns and issues and challenged me in a positive way to get to a better spot in my life.
Dr. O'Malley is the definition of tough love. I came to him because I felt down and broken after years of dealing with an alcoholic. He has been gentle but firm during our time. He hears me out and provides comfort when needed yet when he sees me drifting away he is quick to put me in my place and hold me accountable for my contribution to the problem. He's made me aware of my enabling behavior and provided solutions on how to stop and change that behavior. In the time I have been meeting with him I have notice a difference in my attitude. I'm more at ease. Overall I am very happy seeing Dr. O'Malley.
I felt comfortable, supported and open to share. His feedback was beneficial and relatable. Seeing Dr. O' Malley has been instrumental in my life!
