Getting to know Tia Ricketts

Tia is an empathetic, patient, and caring therapist whose main priority is to provide a safe space to ensure a productive and beneficial experience for clients. She utilizes a combination of Psychodynamic, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Client-centered Therapy. Tia holds a Master's in Mental Health Counseling from the City University of New York, Brooklyn College. She has experience working with young adults dealing with depression, anxiety, and interpersonal conflicts. The stigma placed on mental health, especially among minorities, became her main inspiration for pursuing a career in mental health counseling. Tia seeks to become a positive representative to help combat racial disparities within the healthcare field and its negative impact on people of color and other marginalized groups.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Please note that our specialty is talk therapy. We DO NOT provide medication management or prescription refills. We DO NOT specialize in treatment for substance or alcohol use. Clients must be present in the state of New York at the time of the appointment. Minimum client age: Please note that Tia works with clients who are at least 16 years old.

I was seeking a temporary therapist due to my primary therapist going on maternity leave. . I had 2 sessions with this therapist, she asked me questions about why I was seeking treatment. . I opened up about my personal family issues and how my mother made me seek mental health services as a child for money. . Followed by how I currently still suffer from that trauma because of it. . And to my surprise this woman literally sends me recommendations to seek PSYCHIATRIC treatment, “as part of her clinics policy” AFTER I opened up about my mother’s false claims and diagnosis for financial profit. I literally, am at a complete loss of words and utterly disgusted by this therapist audacity to just recommend me to a psychiatrist, “who collaborates with this clinic” after only 2 sessions and and me expressing resentment towards my mother after she did this for personal financial ?gain when I was a child.
