Tierney Cauley, LPC

Psychotherapist
NJ
The provider is a “Licensed Professional Counselor" and their license number is 37PC00953400 I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) providing integrative psychotherapy to adults throughout New Jersey via telehealth. My work focuses on trauma, anxiety, identity development, and relational and attachment patterns, including experiences such as panic, perfectionism, and health-related anxiety. I often work with individuals who appear high-functioning in their daily lives but feel overwhelmed, disconnected, or stuck beneath the surface. I have a particular focus on both trauma and identity development, helping clients understand how past experiences and relationships have shaped their sense of self, emotional patterns, and ways of relating to others. This work often involves processing unresolved experiences while also exploring questions of identity, direction, and authenticity, especially during periods of transition or internal conflict. My approach is grounded in a mind–body framework, recognizing the interaction between thoughts, emotions, and the nervous system. I integrate evidence-based modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT), while tailoring treatment to each individual. I also have experience supporting individuals in high-stress roles, including first responders. My goal is to help clients move beyond symptom management and develop a more stable, integrated, and sustainable sense of self.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Starting therapy can feel like a big step, especially if you’re used to managing things on your own. Many of the clients I work with appear capable and high functioning in their daily lives, but feel overwhelmed, disconnected, or stuck beneath the surface. My approach is collaborative, thoughtful, and tailored to you. I focus on helping you understand your internal patterns, process past experiences, and develop greater awareness of how your thoughts, emotions, and nervous system are interacting. This work often goes beyond surface level coping, allowing for deeper emotional processing and meaningful change. Therapy with me is both insight-oriented and practical. My goal is not just to reduce symptoms, but to help you feel more grounded, connected, and aligned in your day-to-day life.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

We typically begin with an initial consultation to better understand your concerns, goals, and whether the practice is a good fit for your needs. This allows us to ensure that the work feels aligned and intentional from the start. From there, we move into a structured but flexible therapy process tailored to you. Early sessions focus on building a clear understanding of your experiences, identifying patterns, and establishing a sense of safety and direction in the work. As therapy progresses, we integrate evidence based approaches with mind–body techniques to support emotional processing, nervous system regulation, and meaningful behavioral change. Sessions are collaborative and paced thoughtfully, allowing for both depth and practical progress over time.
