“My first session with this therapist was an incredibly positive experience. From the moment I joined the video, she made me feel comfortable and at ease. Her warm, calm, and non-judgmental approach made it much easier to open up. She took the time to really listen and asked thoughtful questions that showed she was paying attention and genuinely interested in understanding me — not just my situation, but me as a person. I never felt rushed, and she clearly explained how the process works and what I can expect moving forward, which helped ease a lot of the uncertainty that comes with a first visit. Even in just one session, I left feeling heard, supported, and hopeful. It’s clear that she is compassionate, professional, and very skilled at what she does. I’m looking forward to continuing my work with her and would absolutely recommend her to anyone who’s nervous about starting therapy or looking for someone who creates a safe and welcoming space.”

Getting to know Tiffany Martin

Ms. Tiffany Martin is a psychotherapist dedicated to creating a supportive, collaborative environment for healing and personal growth. She practices at Alter Ego Counseling and provides virtual consultations. Ms. Martin brings 17 years of clinical experience with diverse populations. She believes in each client's inherent, though sometimes unrecognized, strength and capacity for positive change. Her trauma-sensitive, strengths-based approach encourages open, honest, and direct communication. Ms. Martin holds a bachelor's degree from University of Central Missouri and a master's degree in social work from the University of Missouri. She strives to remain up to date on the latest developments in her field and to provide top-quality care.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I feel that therapy should not feel like a formal appointment. You should know that I encourage you to be comfortable, and to never feel that you need to sugar coat your feelings or emotions. I believe that open communication is a vital component to treatment. I tend to be direct but empathetic, as I recognize that therapy is time consuming and your time is valuable. We look forward to seeing you at your upcoming appointment. To keep your visit as smooth as possible, please complete your new patient intake forms in advance. You’ll receive an email from Headway with a link to create your patient profile and fill out all required forms in the Headway portal before your appointment. We reserve this appointment time just for you. Because last-minute cancellations and missed visits make it harder for other patients to access care, we ask that you let us know at least 24 hours in advance if you need to cancel or reschedule. This practice does have a $50 cancellation fee if the 24 hour window is not honored.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Ultimately, you are in control of your session. The following two paragraphs describe a typical session flow, but one of the core ethical beliefs that I hold dear, is to always start where the client is. This means that even if I have a plan, or a guide, or an idea of what I think or what to achieve during a session, I will be flexible and allow you to be the leader of your treatment, because ultimately you are your own best expert! I am here to help provide tools and guidance along the way. :) The first session typically is about getting to know you and answering any questions or concerns you may have about treatment or my recommendations for a treatment plan. I begin by asking more about what brought you to treatment today, and what you feel is important for me to know about your history, or life. During this appointment, we will be creating a treatment plan and setting some goals for your sessions. Follow up sessions, typically involve reviewing how the previous week or two went and reviewing any thoughts that are relevant since our last meeting. We will review any "homework" or coping skills that you have tried during the week. Then focus on your priorities for that week. If you are not ready to address a specific issue, we can switch it up and find a subject that works better for your mental health this week. Then review plans or goals for the following week.
