Timothy Malone, LMFT

Psychotherapist
CA
Hi there, I'm Timothy! My name is Tim Malone. I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist based in San Luis Obispo, California, working with clients statewide via Telehealth. I hold a Master’s in Counseling Psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies. I work with teens, First Responders, the LGBTQIA2S+ population, and specialize in PTSD, anxiety, depression, and life transitions. I use EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Mindfulness, Somatic, and an eclectic mix of other therapies to help clients work through limiting beliefs and negative experiences so they can feel better and live fuller lives. My approach My approach varies with each client, but I generally meet each person with warm curiosity and look for ways to bring humor into sessions. I believe we are all human and have human experiences, which helps build our working relationship. I'll use EMDR to help clients process trauma and limiting beliefs, and mindfulness to help clients get out of their heads. I also use other therapeutic elements to help clients examine thoughts and ideas that keep them stuck. My focus My experience in community mental health, youth work, and with LGBTQIA2S+ populations gives me insight into helping others work through trauma/PTSD, anxiety, and depression. I support people through life transitions, especially when they feel stagnant due to adverse experiences causing negative self-image. As a gay man, I am intimately familiar with the struggles of trying to fit into a world where many feel they don’t belong. My communication style My style is warm and personable. I want clients to feel comfortable talking about anything. I work to make difficult subjects feel normal in sessions, as these thoughts and feelings are often normal parts of my clients’ lives.
