Getting to know Timothy Mendoza

My name is Tim Mendoza, and I specialize in helping children, adolescents, and families cope with trauma, depression, anxiety, stress, grief and loss, and behavior concerns. I hold a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from the University of Texas, El Paso. With over 12 years of experience, I have worked with individuals who have faced various traumatic events, including physical abuse, sexual abuse, neglect, community violence, domestic violence, and divorce. I have also supported victims of trafficking, violence, and undocumented immigrants. Recently, my practice has focused on improving parent-child relationships through parent coaching sessions aimed at reducing behavior problems and enhancing social skills and cooperation. I am certified in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT). Additionally, I have advanced training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy and Integrated Treatment for Complex Trauma (ITCT) in children and adolescents. I use a trauma-informed approach to empower you and your family. Sessions will focus on your unique needs, and together we will select the evidence-based approach that best fits your goals. My approach is collaborative, relational, and respectful. I am committed to providing the support you and your family need to heal.

What should a new client know about working with you?

It is very important for a clinician to get an accurate picture of what is impacting a client. That is why it is important to gather as much information as I can during the first session in order to develop a treatment plan that is the most effective for the client. Subsequent sessions will focus on helping the client achieve their goals through evidence-based practices teaching new skills and processing targeted thoughts, feelings and behaviors.

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.

Tim seems kind and intelligent.
Tim is amazing! Really warm, patient, and easy to talk to. He listens closely and helps break things down in a way that feels clear and manageable. I always leave our sessions with some helpful ideas or next steps. Definitely recommend if you’re looking for someone supportive and solution-focused.
Timothy has worked diligently to create a safe space for our family, making sure that each individual has had a chance to to be heard and share their experiences and challenges. He has done this through individual sessions and paired sessions, building rapport, before starting to work with the family as a whole. I was nervous about these dynamics due to previous family therapy experiences, but Timothy was able to observe our interactions through one session and immediately made suggestions on how to work moving forward giving each of us a sense of confidence and empowerment. Our autistic teen has engaged with Timothy in ways that we do not usually see with other professionals as well - Timothy is listening, validating, and making helpful practical suggestions.
Mr. Mendoza has been extremely supportive and has given excellent guidance navigating around our family issues. Within a short period of time we see a difference on our relationship and how we handle challenges.
