Life can be hard at times, it can feel overwhelming, daunting, and "too much". When we are paralyzed in anxiety, we're mad all the time, or the shadows of our past experiences seem to hover a bit too close, we can feel at a loss for what to do. Natural instinct may be to push it down, push through it, ignore it, anything but feel it. That emotional hurt is hard. But... so is not living the life you actually dream of living. So, you are ready to make change, ready to work, ready to face the discomfort now so you can feel less burdened by it later. That's good! We can work with that! My name is TinaMarie Schmidt, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with several years of experience working with a diverse population of adult clients struggling with anxiety, anger, depression, trauma, difficult life transitions and substance abuse. I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Pacific Lutheran University and my Master of Social Work from the University of Washington Tacoma. I am a transdiagnostic, trauma informed, ACT oriented provider. I am a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP), with multiple trainings in a variety of methods to include Written Exposure Therapy (WET) and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE) and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). That is all to say I have experience with a variety of approaches, have a deep understanding of the impact of trauma and value the power and strength in the individual experience. I have over 15 years of experience working with active duty, veteran and military family populations and deeply enjoy working with first responders, veterans, high achievement performers and individuals struggling with anxiety, anger, trauma and life transitions.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I like to say that working with a therapist is like navigating a road trip with a GPS. You are driving the vehicle and you determine the destination and the therapist (GPS) can provide helpful information and guidance to safely and efficiently help you towards your destination. While detours or side trips may be indicated at time, you are always the person in management of the trip. I believe a part my therapeutic role is to be an encouraging coach, identifying your amazing strengths as well as kindly reflect your challenges that you may not be clearly aware of. Relationally, clients have told me that I am kind yet direct and sarcastic but empathetic. I am known to use humor, pop culture, music and even some colorful language at times in discussions. Its who I am as a person and I believe in authenticity in the delivery of care. I offer relational, somatic, mindfulness-based ACT oriented therapy. Those are just fancy words that say the therapeutic and trusting relationship and rapport with my clients is the first priority, and then we work together through a lens of being present centered, nonjudgmental, strengths based, and values driven as I provide a physiological foundation for how the mind and the body work together.I can't, and won't, ever promise to make everything perfect or the problems go away, but I will see you, hear you, and be present so you can make changes in your life that feel authentic to who you are and who you want to be.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The availability you see open, is reserved for new patients. I manage all my established patients independent through my established patient portal for my practice as well as through conversation in session to accommodate scheduling needs. When you reserve a session for an intake, it will be for 60 minutes. Shortly after, I am alerted to the confirmed appointment, I will contact you via phone to discuss your concerns and invite you to open a patient portal account where necessary and required patient forms can be sent to you for completion. I will send you a number of forms for completion. Please be alerted that the session cannot be initiated as scheduled unless the patient Informed Consent Form and The Privacy and HIPAA form are completed. In turn, my practice REQUIRES that a valid, with sufficient funds credit card be placed in your portal account prior to the initial session, to pay for the sessions, including late cancellation/no show fees should you not show to the initial or subsequent appointment. As you can see, new patient availability is limited and payment to secure this appointment is necessary. Please ensure that only accurate information about the patient is entered and that the patient themselves is an adult and completing the necessary forms. If someone else is paying for the sessions, a signed release of information will be offered to allow for the payments.
