Getting to know Todd Newman

I'm a experienced and well-seasoned clinician who continues to love what I do. My experience as a therapist covers a range of psychological presentations. Individual therapy as well as family systems are among my specialties. Interpersonally I like to cultivate a strong bond with the client to establish trust, safety and security, which allows for an embellished counseling experience. Counseling need not be mysterious or puzzling, instead it should denote practicality, usefulness, cordiality, respect and common bonding among human beings.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I firmly believe that people need support and assistance in times of distress. We all share that need. Professional support in the form of psychotherapy can be insightful, constructive and thought provoking. I allow the client a safe and secure space to share their thoughts. My job as a counselor is to assist in particular growth of the individual from a psychological stance. There are many ways to achieve growth and therapy is not one-size-fits-all. There are many theoretical approaches to counseling and I personally believe that in most cases the client is able to find their own solutions with patience, time, guidance and reflection. For me, the offering of a third-party perspective (counselor) when it is warranted could potentially be life changing. Hence, when we are able to accept a different perspective, we can feel more empowered, demystified and enlightened.
