Getting to know Tommy Saathoff

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor residing in Texas, also licensed in Colorado, Florida, Utah, South Carolina, and Vermont. I hold a Master's degree in Mental Health Counseling from St. Mary's University. I specialize in helping you identify and overcome issues that hinder your day-to-day enjoyment of life or interfere with progress toward the goals you have set. In over thirty years of private practice counseling, I have learned to meet clients' needs not only through continued education and research but also through a multitude of life experiences. I enjoy working with a diverse range of clients and have found that humor, when used appropriately and at the right time, can be very beneficial. I believe trust is a fundamental element in any relationship. This trust must be developed and nurtured to remain genuine. Through trust, other important aspects of the relationship can prosper, such as comfort in being open, sincerity, and a willingness to change. I am a lifelong Texan, but I have traveled extensively and embraced many different cultures and location-specific issues. Through all of life's changes, I have learned that even with the best of plans, things do not always work out the way we would like. Having experienced many of the same issues as my clients, I can relate to them on a personal level. This has also allowed me to understand what clients may be going through, even if I have not experienced the exact situation. Through any adversity, there is no reason to feel alone.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Awareness is the first step in bringing about change. Acceptance is the second step. I utilize a client focused approach and find it is most beneficial when you "drive the bus." By this I mean the client expresses their concerns and/or issues and we progress from there. Each session can be unique and does not have to follow a predetermined routine. Life is fluid and dynamic and I believe counseling should be also. I am solution oriented and believe in not only identifying the root causes of personal issues but also in developing a specific plan of action for dealing with these. I truly believe that having someone who actively listens and then can provide valuable insight and suggestions is paramount in this process.

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.

Tommy has made it easy to get started as my first ever therapist. Talking with him feels like talking with a friend which, for me, is just what I needed.
Tommy is good at helping me process my emotions and not just react to them. He is also insightful and usually knows what I’m going to say before I say it. He is patient in guiding me.
I feel very comfortable talking to him. He listens and gives me feedback. Nice personality. He doesn’t waste time talking about himself but shares enough to relate. Inspires me. Gives me hope. Helps my depression and anxiety and puts it into perspective in relationship to God.
Working with Tommy has been a great, pleasant experience for me so far. He is a goal/results-driven counsellor which is exactly what works for me.
