What should a new client know about working with you?

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor licensed in Texas, Iowa and Arizona. I have been in practice for 16 years and my experience spans over a multitude of needs. I have had the pleasure of working with many demographics which has afforded me to be flexible in my approach and well-rounded in my knowledge. I have worked in private practice as well as domestic violence shelters and college counseling settings. I have found that by providing a safe and non-judgmental space for someone to share, this can foster the environment for someone to be their authentic self and allow rapport to be built. This is the very foundation to begin to build and work toward progress. Many times, when someone is simply allowed to feel how they feel and are validated, it can unlock new perspectives, hope and goals they once felt were out of reach. Finding the right therapist can be a journey in itself and I believe connecting with your therapist is imperative. I believe it is necessary for clients to understand their struggles and how to assess them, improve those struggles and put that into action. While I offer services for many mental wellness and life stress needs, I also believe nutrition is a key player in some mental wellness issues and is very important to assess. I enjoy facilitating psychoeducation for clients and supporting them through their growth. My approach provides empathy, engaged listening and behavior change support as part of my therapy style. Outside of my professional life, I like to balance my life by spending time with family and friends, traveling to new places, taking care of our small horse and cattle ranch and showing my horses in cow-horse shows. Being a trauma survivor myself, I have a heart near and dear to victim’s advocacy and volunteer time serving on cold case investigations when available. I would look forward to having the opportunity to work with you on your journey of growth and mental wellness in a supportive and non-judgmental space.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Going through therapy with a therapist can be a very beneficial experience for individuals who want to work through their mental health challenges and improve their overall well-being. Here are some steps you can take to make the most of your therapy experience: - Find the right therapist: The first step is to find a therapist who is a good fit for you. Look for someone who specializes in the type of issues you want to address and whose style matches your preferences. I hope I can be that person for you. - Set clear goals: It's important to have clear goals for therapy so that you and I are on the same page. In our first session, we will discuss your goals and work together to create a treatment plan that outlines the steps you will take to achieve those goals. - Try to be open and honest with me about your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. I am here to help you, and I can only do so if I have a clear understanding of what's going on. - Trust the process: Therapy can be a long process, and it's important to trust that the work you're doing with me will pay off in the end. It's also important to be patient and not expect instant results. - Practice self-care: In addition to attending therapy sessions, it's important to practice self-care on a regular basis. This may include activities such as exercise, meditation, or spending time with loved ones. - Keep an open mind: Finally, it's important to keep an open mind and be willing to try new things. As your therapist, I may suggest different techniques or approaches that you haven't tried before, and it's important to be receptive to these suggestions. Remember, therapy is a collaborative process between you and me, so be sure to communicate your thoughts and concerns along the way. With the right mindset and a willingness to work, therapy can be a transformative experience that helps you achieve your goals and improve your quality of life.
