Getting to know Dr. Tosha Asumah

Hello! I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist located in the state of Virginia. I graduated in 2012, having over a decade of experience providing treatment in various settings. I enjoy assisting people to navigate and manage the stressors of life. As a psychologist, I have had the opportunity to work with those managing issues of anxiety, depression, anger, trauma, grief & loss, racial bias, gender bias, interpersonal dynamics, as well as major mental illness.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Since people are truly unique, my approach is to combine pertinent treatment modalities to meet the needs of the person. Most often a combination of techniques is most effective. I also like to take into consideration any beliefs that guide core values, such as religion or aspects of culture. I also like to weave in humor when appropriate. When life may be feeling like a struggle, having lighthearted moments can be invaluable.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In session we will work to obtain solutions for any concerns that are raised. There will always be opportunities to vent, but I hope to provide psycho-education, encourage the practice of skills that will help minimize symptoms and promote behavioral change that will improve your quality of life.
