Trace Krug, LSW

Psychotherapist
122 S Michigan Ave, Ste 1432, Chicago, IL
I view my role in therapy as helping you come to a better understanding of yourself. As we work through the therapeutic process together, it will allow you to make the best decisions about your life and move forward with new clarity. To begin, we will explore your dilemmas and history. As our therapeutic relationship deepens, this will hopefully create a safe space for you to open up and discuss some of the most complex and troubling aspects of your life story. Our ability to work collaboratively in sessions together will allow us to put into language the things that are most bothering you, to produce new insights about your internal and relational processing. Over time, this new understanding will lead to profound changes and allow you to flourish.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Many people seek therapy because they are dealing with emotional states that are unbearable or because they are having difficulty in their closest relationships. Much of the healing in psychotherapy comes through the therapeutic relationship itself. In my work, I pay close attention to our relationship and best adapt it to provide a corrective relational and emotional experience that will in turn help you develop better connections with the important people in your life outside of treatment. Humans are social beings, so this ability to develop mutually supportive relationships with others will be key to your wellbeing. In your treatment, we will pay close attention to your personal and familial history, but equally to larger issues related to culture and society that have also contributed to your problems in living. As such, it would be my goal that this questioning together will allow you to move through the world with more ease and vibrancy.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I have a background in the arts and I view this training as equally important to my training as a clinical social worker. Artists, writers, and researchers in the humanities and social sciences have struggled for centuries with questions about emotions, relationships, freedom, justice, and love. Utilizing my creative background and leading with curiosity allows me to provide you with care that has a breadth and depth.
