What should a new client know about working with you?

I have been working with children, youth and families for over 20 years and I value the importance of building a strong foundation of trust with my clients so that I can support them in their life transitions. My approach is trauma-informed, strengths-based and person-centered. I believe that in understanding the impact of trauma on one's current functioning from a strengths-based approach, there is always potential to overcome challenges and reach one's goals of stability. Clients can expect to leave an initial session feeling heard, supported and with a plan of next steps.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The initial session will consist of getting to know what brings you into therapy and talking through your current situation-work, school, family members with whom you reside, health status and any area that seems to be a challenge. We identify strategies that may assist you in addressing your functioning, such as your thought processes. Our thoughts have a big impact on our behavior and attitude. Using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and a Person-Centered approach, we will examine how your thinking impacts your daily living and we will take a look at any past trauma or attachments that may interfere. You're in the driver seat, so together, we will determine the best path to help you on your healing journey.
