Getting to know Tracy Springate

Tracy is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) with experience in outpatient settings, private practice, and community mental health resources. She works with individual adults and couples, providing trauma-informed therapy for mood disorders, anxiety disorders, and trauma-related disorders. Tracy holds a Master of Arts degree in Clinical Counseling from Eastern Kentucky University. As a complex trauma specialist, Tracy believes that you have a “true self” that has never been and will never be damaged by the anguish and grief you’ve endured. She offers a wide array of trauma-informed skills to help you trust yourself, feel confident around others, enhance the quality of your relationships, and illuminate your power as you befriend yourself again. Tracy’s approach is grounded in helping you befriend your nervous system, understand how your environment and past have shaped you, and build enough resiliency to face any challenge life may bring. The pace and methods of your healing are up to you, and Tracy will meet you in a way that aims to discover and enhance your cognitive values, regulate emotion, and tolerate distress. These methods include, but are not limited to, Internal Family Systems (also known as “parts work”), Cognitive Processing Therapy, Somatic Therapy, and more. You’ll have multiple opportunities to provide feedback on the direction you’d like to take your journey. As a trans-female, Tracy has extensive experience with multicultural and LGBTQ identities, but she welcomes adults of any culture. Others describe their collaboration with Tracy as gentle, honest, genuine, and validating.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I believe that you are not broken because you’re not a person that needs to be fixed in the first place. You only needed to be respected and understood. I uphold that a nervous system implies the existence of a loving system. People often think I’m helping them overcome anguish when really, I’m helping them experience how to love again despite their pain. Some days we will talk, vibe, and think out loud. Which is great! On other days we will establish what being “done” with therapy looks like and how you want to get there. I'm a trauma specialist serving individuals and couples in Illinois. We will explore your relationship to your body, community, love, and your Self. I aim to go "beyond talk therapy" with The Internal Family Systems Modality, Gottman Relationship Therapy, biofeedback, and more. If you feel that life is keeping you in a perpetual state of fear, obligation, and guilt, allow me to be a space where your sadness is seen and your rage is understood. Let's recognize that these parts of you that you may be ashamed of are only trying to help and you can exercise your right to be in control of your journey again. Together, let's find "you."
