Travis Tebbetts, LMHC

Psychotherapist
714 Main St, Yarmouth Port, MA
My approach to therapy is unstructured and centered on meaningful conversation, where humor is always welcome to create a safe partnership that moves in your direction at your pace. I hold a Master's in Counseling Psychology from Lesley University and a Bachelor's degree from Northeastern University. My background includes treating individuals with anxiety, depression, trauma, substance use, crisis, grief and loss, relationship problems, and PTSD. My passion is helping people clarify what might be holding them back or preventing them from accepting the happiness they deserve through self-acceptance. My therapeutic approach is grounded in humanistic, person-centered talk therapy, meeting individuals where they are through empathic, mindful, validating conversation and meaningful connection. I have extensive experience treating the effects of trauma, which individuals are often unaware they are struggling with. Shame can be a common barrier to starting therapy, and trust isn't always easy to accept, especially if you have been hurt in the past. Developing a relationship at your pace where you feel welcome, heard, and comfortable beginning a journey toward healing is always my primary goal in treatment.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I most often practice unstructured, person-centered talk therapy where the client determines the direction of our work together. Mindfulness is an important part of my approach, connecting thoughts, feelings and behaviors to conscious and unconscious triggers, while helping you learn to avoid getting stuck in the past or future within the safety of the present.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Individuals seeking therapy can expect to start off with developing a comfortable, safe relationship with no set amount of time to do so, while we learn what could be bothering you and how you would like to feel instead. Most of my clients see substantial relief in symptoms within the first month with sustained improvement through ongoing guidance and clarity at their own pace.
