Tricia Mazza, LPC

Psychotherapist
VA
Since college in the early 2000's, I have worked within a variety of settings across the country. These were medical hospitals and emergency rooms, psychiatric hospitals, a substance abuse detox unit, higher education as an adjunct faculty member, and outpatient community mental health. These experiences built a strong dedication to serve each client with dignity, respect, and a high standard of care. I created Cohesive Counseling in order to serve clients with a clear, straight forward, and honest approach. I deeply believe in the transcendent power that self-awareness can cultivate and it has been my life's work to support people in this courageous, raw, and honest journey. My philosophy recognizes that there is no "one size fits all" approach. That being said, I do rely on a concentrated variety of therapeutic interventions. I am most often viewing clients through the lens of compassion, non-judgement, and curiosity. It is my intention to help you explore your inner world and connect with the thoughts, emotions, and experiences you are here to process. I function from the belief that, "feeling your feelings" is truly a super power. ?I blend mindfulness (being present instead of dissociating), psychodynamic (exploring childhood experiences [not just looking for the bad, either]), somatic experiencing (getting out of your head), CBT (how our emotions feed our thoughts), and existential approaches (meaning and purpose). I am trained to conduct EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), which can be very helpful in minimizing the emotional volatility of memories, thoughts, and/or beliefs. In 2024, I completed the Compassionate Bereavement Care Certification program from the Center for Loss and Trauma in partnership with the MISS Foundation and the Elizabath Kubler-Ross Family Trust under Dr. Joanne Cacciatore at the Selah Carefarm in Sedona, Arizona.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Your First Session : During your first meeting, we will talk about you and your life, and discuss the concerns that brought you to therapy more deeply. Together we will use this information to start to define your goals for therapy. ?Additional Sessions: Effective therapy is a joint effort. Different people find different methods helpful, and that is what makes therapy that works look different for everyone. This also means that your input and feedback on the work we will do together is not only helpful, but necessary. Successful clients are ready to do the work that is required for growth and are ready to challenge themselves by digging deep and, usually, mastering new skills. We are here to support and guide you through this brave and courageous endeavor.
