Tyler Bray, LCSW

Psychotherapist
VA
I’m Tyler Bray, LCSW, and I provide telehealth therapy for adults in Virginia who are navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, self-doubt, boundaries, relationship concerns, and life transitions. I have 5 years of experience supporting clients as they work to better understand themselves, manage emotions, build coping skills, and create lives that feel more grounded and authentic. My style is warm, direct, collaborative, and practical. I believe therapy should feel like a space where you can be honest about what is really going on without feeling judged, rushed, or talked down to. Many of my clients come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, stuck in their heads, hard on themselves, or unsure how to move forward. Together, we slow things down, identify patterns, and build tools that can be used in real life. I draw from evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, distress tolerance skills, self-compassion, trauma-informed care, and culturally responsive therapy. My work often focuses on helping clients strengthen emotional regulation, challenge unhelpful thought patterns, set healthier boundaries, communicate needs more clearly, and reconnect with their values. I especially enjoy working with young adult women who may look like they have it together on the outside but internally feel anxious, exhausted, self-critical, or caught in people-pleasing. I bring warmth, humor, structure, and honest conversation into therapy while honoring each client’s lived experience, culture, identity, and pace. My goal is to help clients feel more grounded, capable, confident, and connected to themselves. Therapy with me is not about having all the answers before you begin. It is about creating space to understand what you are carrying, build practical skills, and move toward meaningful change with support.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My style is supportive and direct, with space for honesty, humor, reflection, and practical tools. I help clients understand their patterns, manage emotions, build coping skills, practice self-compassion, and set healthier boundaries. I use evidence-based approaches like CBT, DBT, ACT, trauma-informed care, distress tolerance, and culturally responsive therapy. My goal is to help you feel more grounded, capable, and connected to yourself in ways that fit your real life.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My typical process starts with getting to know what is bringing you to therapy and what you hope feels different. You do not need to have everything organized before we begin. We will sort through it together. In early sessions, we focus on understanding your patterns, stressors, strengths, history, and goals. From there, we create a plan that feels realistic and supportive. Our work may include processing emotions, building coping skills, practicing boundaries, challenging unhelpful thoughts, improving emotional regulation, and reconnecting with your values. I use evidence-based tools while keeping sessions warm, collaborative, practical, and centered on your real life.
