Tyler Connifey, LCSW

Psychotherapist
NC
I am a licensed therapist who works with adults navigating anxiety, depression, trauma-related concerns, and major life transitions. My clinical background includes extensive work in medical and high-stress environments, which has shaped a calm, structured, and practical approach to therapy. I primarily use evidence-based treatments, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, to help clients better understand emotional patterns, reduce avoidance, and develop skills that support lasting change. I believe therapy works best when it is collaborative, goal-oriented, and focused on helping clients apply what they learn to their daily lives. I work with individuals who are seeking more than just symptom relief—they want clarity, improved emotional regulation, and practical strategies for managing stress and challenges more effectively. My goal is to provide a supportive space while also helping clients move forward in meaningful, measurable ways.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Working with me is collaborative, structured, and focused on practical change. I take time early on to understand what brings you to therapy, what you’ve already tried, and what you want to be different in your life. Sessions are active and goal-oriented, and I often incorporate skill-building, psychoeducation, and strategies you can practice between sessions. I aim to create a supportive and respectful environment while also helping clients gently challenge unhelpful patterns. Therapy with me is not rushed, but it is intentional. I work best with clients who are open to reflection, learning new skills, and engaging consistently in the therapy process. My role is to support you while also helping you develop tools that increase confidence, emotional flexibility, and the ability to manage stressors more effectively over time.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The first session focuses on getting a clear understanding of what’s bringing you in, your current concerns, relevant history, and your goals for therapy. We’ll talk about what you hope to change and what progress would look like for you. From there, we work together to develop a treatment plan that fits your needs and priorities. Ongoing sessions are structured and collaborative. Depending on your goals, sessions may include exploring emotional patterns, learning and practicing coping skills, addressing avoidance, and applying strategies to real-life situations. I regularly check in on progress and adjust our approach as needed to ensure therapy remains helpful and aligned with your goals. While therapy is individualized, my approach is generally skills-focused and evidence-based, with an emphasis on helping clients feel more capable, grounded, and confident managing life’s challenges.
