Psychotherapist
CA
Whatever your unique experience is that brought you to seek therapy, I know it has taken multiple attempts and a whole lot of courage. We all desire to be seen and affirmed in our journey to uncover our authentic self(s). I aim to provide a warm, collaborative space that encourages a process of uncovering and stepping into the life that aligns with your deepest truth(s). I hold the space for witnessing your grief in all that has made you hide, as well as celebrate all of the new growth. I work with people of all ages who are interested in living a life more authentic, and I am specifically trained in how this applies to gender. I take a queer affirmative, strength based, liberation focused approach to our work together. I use eclectic therapy tools including mindfulness, acceptance and commitment (ACT), and narrative methods. If you choose to work with me, you will find a judgment-free, compassionate, creative space, because I have a core assumption that you have found your way to therapy, in part, because of the lack of space to feel fully free to explore.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My clients tend to be moving through transitions of some sort or another and need the support and mirroring I can uniquely provide as a queer middle aged trans-man. My clients are always centered in our space, but I do self-disclose and use my life experience as part of my support. I am very warm and curious, I always have been. I aim to learn your specific needs and also show up authentically myself. I am a pretty casual therapist who isn't afraid to use any and everything if it is in the service of the person I am supporting. I spent the first many years of my life as a resource teacher in the public school system. This means I look for resources where they may not always be obvious. I found my way to therapy because it's what I have always provided and enjoyed providing to the students that I worked with, but never felt like the space was there to dig deeper.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

We will check in often to see how your needs are and potentially how they might not be met. I aim to use sessions as a corrective experience where a person can practice communicating aspects of themselves that have often been left silent or bring up defensiveness. In our space, all feelings are allowed, even the ones that may not feel good. Our first session will look like getting the basics out of the way as fast as possible so that our attention can turn to your internal experience and co-creating hopes of our work together. I am both comfortable taking the lead with questions as well as providing ample space to explore and listen. I am in no way a one size fits all therapist and more a co-pilot who really enjoys cheerleading.
