Getting to know Tyler Sar

Have you ever felt lost, not knowing why you're feeling so down, stressed, or anxious? If yes, we can work together through psychotherapy to sift through the systemic and personal issues that affect so many of us. Whether it's your romantic life, experiencing distress from a life transition, thoughts regarding sexuality and masculinity, or you simply want to learn more about yourself and your place in this world, psychotherapy might help. As a Cambodian American, I am aware of the distinct experience of being a person of color in the USA, and I want to help those who are open to finally taking control of their lives.

What should a new client know about working with you?

As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with over 5 years of practice, I have a significant amount of experience working with a wide range of ethnic backgrounds, class, and sexuality. I graduated from Teachers College, Columbia University, in Psychological Counseling with the Bilingual Latina/o Mental Health (BLMH) concentration, with Spanish fluency. I specialize in working with a diverse population, including Asian, Black, Latino, and other BIPOC members. What is your typical process for working with clients?

In my practice, I lean towards a person-centered and multicultural approach to create an understanding of contexts and emotional awareness. From there, I tend to use CBT and DBT skills to mitigate emotional dysregulation. As symptoms improve and there is more space for psychological exploration, I help clients explore their values through an existential orientation to help find meaning in life.
