Getting to know Uyen Kha

***Please note that I do NOT prescribe medications. I provide talk therapy. I also only currently take Aetna insurance, NOT Medi-Cal. Therefore it will be out of pocket at $185 *** I provide a compassionate, confidential space where clients can explore challenges without judgment. I am not a blank slate therapist, I will bring myself authentically into session. I believe that providing a space where you can be authentically you, in a safe, contained therapeutic relationship can do wonders for healing. Clients describe me as warm, relatable, and humorous. I graduated from Brandman University with a master's degree in marriage and family therapy. I believe in everyone carries an innate capacity for growth and the tools necessary to foster resilience, deepen self-understanding, and cultivate a more fulfilling and valued life.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Childhood experiences, and past trauma can shape the person we are today, sometimes in ways that we least expect. Perhaps you’ve felt like you had a good life but had an inkling that something was “missing” or often feeling “not good enough”. Perhaps you continue to find yourself in the same types of draining relationships, and in the same types of communication patterns. Perhaps you continue to find yourself shutting down your emotions or lashing out when dealing with stressful events. Why do I continue to do this? You may ask yourself. I work with women who want to figure out the “why” and the “how”. We work on putting the puzzle pieces together, process and heal the things that had happened in the past, retrieve parts of you that may have been pushed aside amidst the chaos to make a pathway towards a life that you feel content and proud of. You don’t have to be “strong” all the time.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

As someone who continues to go to therapy myself, I will admit - therapy is hard work. But sometimes, continuing the life we have as is may be even harder. I am with you to untangle the mess. I provide a safe, nonjudgmental space where we can explore, laugh, cry, grow and be human. Therapy begins with me learning about your history, your situation, and how your situation has been impacting your life. From there, we work on building trust and safety within the therapy relationship before we begin processing trauma, working out the 'why's, learning coping skills, and ultimately determining how to put the 'how's into effect in order to produce long lasting change.
