As an adolescent therapist with a Master's in Social Work from the University of Pittsburgh, I strive to connect. To listen before providing feedback. To ask questions to better understand. Connection is the sense of closeness and belonging a person experiences through supportive relationships with those around them. It is when each person feels valued, seen, and heard. Connection and compassion are essential during therapy, as is challenging and guiding individuals to push beyond their current understanding and patterns to develop healthier, life-improving skills, habits, and approaches. Before a teen can receive these ?new? approaches, they must first be heard, understood, and validated. Adolescents often receive new approaches before feeling fully heard because loving adults want to share their wisdom to protect and guide them away from mistakes or uncomfortable situations. However, adolescence is about developing their own wisdom through experience. As connection takes hold, the next phase of our work begins. I like to call this phase ?gently nudging.? This may involve finding new meaning in an experience, challenging unhealthy beliefs, noticing distorted thinking, identifying barriers to growth, discontinuing toxic habits, setting boundaries, or recognizing when boundaries are too rigid. Adolescents open to being nudged in a healthier direction are those who feel heard and understood first. They experience some level of trust and feel guided toward a direction that can benefit their quality of life. I hope to help adolescents experience connection followed by growth.

What should a new client know about working with you?

To provide the safe space needed for adolescents in therapy it is important to note that my protocol is to refrain from sharing therapy session discussions with parents. I can provide parents with treatment updates, progress made, and skills taught. I will include parents if there is a safety risk (suicidal/homicidal ideation, intent, plan) or report suspected abuse (physical, emotional, sexual). This can be frustrating for parents as they want to know, so they can help. Parents can be helpful by allowing this safe space for their teen. If it is helpful to know, I often encourage my adolescents to be more open with parents and can provide them with the language to present that information in the most effective way to be heard and understood. I encourage both parents and teens to read and understand my approach and how I may be of help. If you feel I can help please take the next step to schedule an intake appointment.

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.
