Vanessa Nash, LMFT

Psychotherapist
CA
Hi there, I'm Vanessa! I am a licensed marriage and family therapist with a PhD in Forensic Psychology from Walden University. I specialize in working with first responders, as well as veterans and active military personnel. My practice typically addresses issues such as PTSD, depression, anxiety, alcohol/substance use, marital challenges, work stress, and sleep disturbances. I approach therapy as a collaborative, educational process, helping my clients understand what is happening with their brains and bodies while equipping them with skills and tools to live a fuller, healthier life. My approach I utilize a variety of methods to help clients work toward their goals, including cognitive behavioral therapy, solution-focused therapy, trauma-informed practices, and mindfulness. I prefer a direct, coaching-based style during therapy. My focus I primarily treat first responders and military members, focusing on PTSD, work stress, family issues, depression, anxiety, sleep disturbances, and other challenges that often arise from the unique stressors these professions face. My communication style I use direct, humorous communication with my clients. I want therapy to feel like a conversation rather than a lecture. Therapy doesn’t always have to be difficult or uncomfortable to be effective! My journey to mental healthcare I have been interested in psychology since I was young. My passion for working with first responders and military members stems from my family’s background, which includes both retired and active military and law enforcement members. I understand how stressful these careers can be—not only for those serving but also for their families. It is truly rewarding to help my clients understand what is happening in their minds and bodies and to provide them with tools to function better in their lives.
