Vassiliki Pappas, LMHC

Psychotherapist
NY
I founded Vassiliki Pappas Mental Health Counseling, PLLC with the belief that therapy should feel collaborative, grounding, and deeply human. I provide a warm, supportive space where individuals can safely explore life’s challenges while building insight, resilience, and self-understanding. I work with individuals of all backgrounds, identities, and experiences, while specializing in working with highly ambitious young adult and adult women navigating anxiety, PTSD/C-PTSD, sexual trauma, attachment wounds, unhealthy relationship dynamics, perfectionism, and hyper-independence. Often, these patterns develop as forms of protection and survival, leaving individuals feeling emotionally disconnected, overwhelmed, or stuck despite appearing highly capable on the outside. My approach is eclectic and tailored to each individual, integrating evidence-based modalities including EMDR, Attachment Theory, Internal Family Systems, ACT, and somatic approaches to support meaningful and lasting healing. I am also a Certified 300-Hour Hot Yoga Teacher and am passionate about helping individuals connect with their mind and body, deepen self-acceptance, strengthen relationships, and reconnect with the strengths that already exist within them. Compassion and accountability are at the core of my work. I believe healing happens within a strong therapeutic relationship where individuals feel genuinely seen, supported, and empowered to create sustainable change aligned with the life they want to live. You do not have to navigate it alone.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Therapy with me is collaborative, active, and tailored to you. I believe that understanding why you feel, think, or respond in certain ways can be incredibly powerful, but insight is only one part of the process. Together, we’ll explore the experiences and patterns that have shaped you while also building practical ways to navigate what you’re facing now. My style is warm, authentic, and direct. I’m not a therapist who will simply sit back and nod—I’ll ask questions, offer observations, help you make connections, and gently challenge you when it may support your growth. At the same time, you are the expert on your own experience, and therapy should move at a pace that respects your needs, boundaries, and autonomy. I primarily work with young adults and adults navigating trauma, anxiety, attachment and relationship patterns, perfectionism, people-pleasing, and feeling disconnected from themselves. I take an integrative approach and draw from EMDR, ACT, CBT, mindfulness, somatic and mind-body approaches, and other evidence-based interventions depending on what fits you best. You don’t need to come to therapy knowing exactly what you want to work on or having the “right” words to describe what you’re experiencing. We can figure that out together. My goal is to help you better understand yourself, develop a different relationship with difficult thoughts and emotions, recognize patterns that may no longer serve you, and feel increasingly confident making choices that align with who you are and the life you want to build.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I begin by getting to know you as a whole person—not just the symptoms or concerns that brought you to therapy. During our first few sessions, we’ll explore what’s been going on, relevant experiences and relationships, patterns you’ve noticed, and what you hope to gain from our work together. We’ll collaborate on goals while recognizing that those goals can evolve as therapy progresses. From there, I tailor our work to your individual needs rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach. Depending on what we’re working through, sessions may involve exploring past experiences, identifying patterns, processing emotions, developing practical strategies, or using approaches such as EMDR, ACT, CBT, mindfulness, and mind-body interventions. I regularly check in about how therapy is feeling and whether our work is moving in a direction that feels meaningful to you. As we progress, the focus often shifts from simply understanding patterns to practicing new ways of responding, relating to yourself and others, and navigating difficult experiences. My goal is for therapy to be an active, collaborative process that evolves alongside you.
