Getting to know Velma Oliver
I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who believes every person holds the capacity to grow and heal in their own way, and I am here to support that journey with authenticity, kindness, and a sense of humor.
The most inspiring part of my career is helping clients discover their own resilience and ability to thrive. I chose to work in mental healthcare because, as Maya Angelou said, “My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some humor, some compassion, some passion, and some style.” I strive to help others do the same.
My background includes providing clinical recommendations and therapeutic support to children and families within the Illinois child welfare system. I specialize in helping clients experiencing depression, anxiety, trauma, and relationship challenges using approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy and solution-focused therapy.
Outside of therapy, I enjoy traveling, spending time with loved ones, and reading Nothing is Missing by Nicole Walters and Master of Me by Keke Palmer.
