Velma Perez, LCSW

Psychotherapist
TX
Hi there, I'm Velma! I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker-Supervisor with over thirteen years of experience in the mental health field. I earned my Master’s in Social Work from Our Lady of the Lake University. My practice focuses on supporting individuals, families, geriatrics, and teens. I believe therapy is a collaboration between therapist and client, using CBT, DBT, ACT, and other therapeutic modalities with a person-centered approach to tailor the experience to each individual. My goal is to create a space where clients feel supported and empowered toward change and growth, emphasizing a strong therapeutic relationship. My personal counseling style is empathic, non-judgmental, compassionate, and individualized. I incorporate Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and mindfulness to help people connect their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. CBT involves understanding issues like depression or self-esteem and completing exercises to recognize and change current mindsets. Mindfulness complements this by fostering self-awareness, living in the present moment, and focusing on positive goals. I specialize in helping individuals manage emotional challenges related to trauma, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, depression, anxiety, relationship issues, child and adult ADHD, learning, academic and work difficulties, self-esteem, chronic illness, and adjustment to change. My philosophy is that therapy is most successful when there is a trusting, mutual relationship between therapist and client. I strive to create a safe space where you can freely share any struggles without judgment. Our work together may include processing and healing from past traumas, coping with anxiety or depression, addressing adult attachment challenges, or simply supporting you as you navigate life.
