Veronica Suazo, AMFT

Psychotherapist
2001 Addison St, Ste 300, Berkeley, CA
Hi, I'm Vero Suazo (she/her), a therapist at Tonalli Therapy & Consulting, a BIPOC-centered group practice in the Bay Area. I work with women who hold everything together for everyone else: moms, eldest daughters, the ones the whole family leans on. If you're the person everyone calls first and you can't remember the last time anyone asked how YOU were doing, you're exactly who I had in mind. I support adults working through anxiety and overthinking, big life transitions, relationship struggles, grief, and ADHD, which I know from lived experience, not just a textbook. My style is warm but pretty direct. I'll listen without judgment, and I'll also be honest with you, because you deserve a therapist who does both. I earned my Master's in Marriage and Family Therapy from Alliant University, and I'm an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist supervised by Adriana Martinez, LCSW #75597

What should a new client know about working with you?

Clients often describe me as warm but direct. You can expect to feel genuinely listened to, without judgment, and you can also expect honest, thoughtful feedback. Many of the women I work with have spent years being the strong one for everyone else, and part of my role is offering the kind of caring honesty they rarely receive. Everything you bring is welcome here: the anxiety and overthinking, grief that surfaces in unexpected ways, the challenges of an ADHD brain (something I understand through lived experience as well as training), and the complicated feelings that come with carrying so much for your family. None of it means something is wrong with you. Therapy with me is a place to set the weight down, be fully heard, and start moving toward what you actually want.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

We start with your story. In our first sessions, I want to understand what's bringing you in, what you're carrying, and what you actually want. From there, the work is practical and collaborative. I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to work with the overthinking spirals, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) for skills around big emotions, somatic therapy to get out of your head and notice what your body's been holding, and motivational interviewing and solution-focused therapy to move you toward what matters, not just talk about it. Some sessions go deep, some are tools-and-strategy sessions, and we check in regularly about what's working. Therapy with me isn't a place you vent and stay stuck. It's where your path forward starts taking shape.
