Vicki Smith, LPC

Psychotherapist
TX
Hello, I am Vicki Smith. I hold a Master's in Guidance and Counseling Psychology from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Texas. I have been a counselor since 2009, following a 30-year career as an educator in Texas public middle schools. I specialize in counseling adolescents. Do I have them completely figured out? Does anyone? But I have a deep affection for them and strive to help them find their way in life. While my focus is on adolescents, I work with clients of all ages. Family conflict and relationships play a huge role in an adolescent's life, and I address these issues along with whatever else clients feel needs attention. It's important that you know what to expect from me and share what you hope to gain from therapy. Our goal is for you to become a happier and healthier you.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I am a virtual counselor which means you can experience therapy from the comfort of your own home by either video or phone conference. I use a friendly approach with clients but know how to push when a client is needing it. My goal is to help my clients be their healthiest selves. Book now. I've always had the mantra that if someone leaves a session in better shape than they came that it was a success. The goal is not to "fix" my clients but provide them ways to cope with daily life and to function better than they currently are. Clients should have the willingness to work hard and be open to the process.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I often use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. CBT focuses on the way people think and act to help them with their emotional/behavioral problems. The goal of therapy is to recognize how these thoughts affect ones feelings and actions. Once these connections are made, you learn to replace negative thoughts with healthy ones that result in healthier emotions and behaviors.
