Getting to know Victoria Fombelle

*FYI: I do not provide medications* Counseling with me is built on a warm, authentic, nonjudgmental relationship that is personally catered to your unique goals and needs. I hold a Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Roosevelt University. As a queer counselor passionate about equity and social justice, I focus on making room for all aspects of your identity and empowerment through an intersectional, trauma-informed lens. Together, we can work on topics including trauma, anxiety, depression, ADHD, autism, relationships, sexuality, identity, family dynamics, and beyond. I specialize in working with queer and neurodivergent individuals as well as relationship and couples clients. My hope is to create an environment of safety, growth, healing, acceptance, and positive momentum.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I'd want new clients to know that they can feel safe to be themselves and bring any and all aspects of their identity to the table in sessions with me. Counseling will start with me getting a holistic impression of multiple areas of your life, in addition to understanding your goals, needs, and preferences in treatment. Counseling will be catered to you every step of the way. It'll be focused on a genuine relationship between the two of us that makes you feel safe, empowered, and challenged to grow in the ways you want to. I'd want new clients to know that I offer a variety of approaches, all focused on trauma-informed and multiculturally sensitive practices. Whether you want an open space to process feelings or a more structured form of counseling involving homework, mindfulness training, or creative activities in-session, I intend to craft sessions and a relationship that fits your specific needs. Let's figure out what works best for you together!

What is your typical process for working with clients?

While the process will look different depending on the client and their needs, every client starts with a biopsychosocial assessment and intake process. This means I'll be asking you about areas of your life including mental health history, family and social dynamics, cultural and identity factors, work, school, personal passion points, values, and more. I'm highly intentional about understanding your goals in counseling and co-creating a roadmap that is always subject to change. Once we move through the intake process, we will focus sessions on salient material from your life, always tying back to your overarching goals in treatment. I use a gentle yet direct approach, with a special focus on emphasizing your strengths and viewing what might be perceived as a weakness as a growth opportunity. While I am non-hierarchical and focused on empowering clients to take the driver's seat, I'm an active listener and participant in sessions who aims to help you see new perspectives. I'm always happy to brainstorm and share ideas based on your needs and my knowledge, while allowing you to decide which approach you want to take. I incorporate interventions intentionally, whether that be intentional questioning, meditation training, task organization skills, sleep hygiene, or many other approaches depending on what a client hopes to address.
