What should a new client know about working with you?

MY core approach is cognitive behavioral therapy, with a sprinkle of other evidence based approaches such as dialectical behavioral therapy as appropriate. I use pop culture affiliations and humor to help connect to what is important to you and help make therapy relevant to your life. Please Note: clients must be located in the Commonwealth of Virginia or Canada at the time of the appointment.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our first appointment is the intake, mainly information gathering so that we can discuss what top issues you would like to address and your previous experiences in counseling. A typical session includes a check in on the week and follow up on any practice, as well as any new concerns. Therapy follows a typical progression of skill development as well as a heavy dose of education so that you can understand not only why you do what you do now but also to understand how what skills you are learning will help get you closer to your goals.
