Getting to know Victoria Stanton

Truer than ever before, the world is full of suffering. Though it is also true that the world is full of healing and overcoming. I see the hope that brought you to this page. The hope in finding healing and growth through therapy. It can be challenging to find a safe, culturally-sensitive, therapeutic space especially for those identifying as queer, transgender, and non-binary. You deserve to feel understood and supported. I am committed to creating and maintaining a safe and nonjudgmental space for people to explore their life experiences and strengths as well as cultivate a sense of self-compassion, self-trust, and empowerment. I am a licensed clinical professional counselor, graduating with a master’s degree in clinical psychology from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology in 2013. I completed my undergraduate studies at Northern Illinois University, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and neuroscience. My clinical training and diverse experience working in nursing homes, hospitals, and community-based settings have allowed me the privilege of working with people from all walks of life. My experiences have provided me with skills to assist you with issues related to anxiety, depression, trauma, life stressors, ADHD, career development, interpersonal difficulties, life transitions, and identity development. With full acknowledgment that several of these issues may be influencing one another. Therapy may be used as a way to gain insight, express yourself, overcome challenges, strengthen your relationships, and embark on new endeavors.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Therapy should be a collaborative process! Through our work together, we will explore ways to overcome life’s inevitable obstacles, achieve goals, and find ways to thrive in the many faces of adversity. I received additional training in providing effective telemental health services to adjust to our ever-changing world. Currently only providing services through a telehealth platform.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

After scheduling, I will reach out via email and send you a client portal where you will fill out necessary forms. Our first session will be spent getting to know you, your goals, and answering your questions about the therapy process. No client's therapy will look the same as everyone comes in with individual needs! Most importantly, we will dive into things at your own pace. This is your safe space and I honor that completely. Dependent on personality and individual needs, I utilize a combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Emotion Focused Therapy, Client Centered Therapy, as well as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. Throughout our time together you will become more familiar with that jargon (if you aren't already!).

I was pretty nervous going to a counselor for the first time, but I'm glad I found Victoria. She made it a great experience. She is easy to talk to and knew exactly how to approach a first-time counselling session. Victoria is very professional- I felt comfortable talking about everything I'm going through with her and never felt judged. I would recommend Victoria to anyone who is looking for a counselor!
